"biology’s big bang", the economist, june 16th to june 22nd
reviewed by booty::.

a quick summary of the article:

Biology is currently undergoing what physics underwent in the early 20th century. In 1932, the discovery of the neutron provided a catalyst for current understanding of the physical world. Now, with the discovery and deepened understanding of RNA, biology is seeing the same exponential growth and unlimited possibility.

Is GameTap Web 2.0?

Lately, GameTap.com has been getting more and more coverage. The people at the 1up network mention them quite a lot in for example their podcasts, seemingly praising them. Don't get me wrong, i love the 1up website and the things they do (our own site idol Jenn Frank resides there!). But i can't get rid of the impression that they just mention the service because of at least some marketing agreement.

Web 3.0

I see zk has added a rich text editor. Does it color code syntax? We will see.

With the upcoming release of Microsoft Silverlight, which is aimed squarely at competing with Macromedia's Flash empire, I have found myself wondering if the future of the web will be applications running inside of plug-ins.

Macs just work

So, Safari for Windows Beta 3 was just released, and as a web developer, I was happy to download it so I could now have a complete array of test browsers on one box (IE, Firefox, Opera & Safari...Konqueror uses can suck it). Previously I had to use our testing lab to do any Safari related fixes.

After a relatively painless install, I launched the browser and was immediately prompted for my NT id (I was working on my corporate network, so this was no surprise). I keyed it in and was greeted with this:

The browser works fine when I'm at home aside from a horrendously long load time (over a minute on a 2ghz machine), so I'm assuming that the crash was caused by buggy login code in the beta. Hopefully Apple gets this sorted out by the next release, because I really do want to use Safari for testing purposes.

Way to go Apple, it just works :)

Planet Earth

Lately i've been watching this great nature documentary series made by the BBC. Using high-definition camera, military imaging equipment and huge amounts money they have probably created the best possible advertisement for high definition broadcasting. And i can say that even when i am watching them on 'old' dvd's.

Finally. A new proper game for my Wii. For quite some time I only used my Wii for Virtual Console. TurboGrafx-16 shooters - i love them all. If I had this thing 15 years ago, I would be a pro at these things now. But thats not the reason I bought this system. I've had mine since december when it launched here in Europe. Sure, I had fun with it. But it really lacked software titles that I was willing to buy. I'm just not the type for movie-license crap.

I vaguely remember discovering jamendo a few months back, but as I was currently in the process of acquiring for myself a number of commercial albums *cough*, I more or less overlooked it. Feeling rather disenchanted by the commercial crap pumping out of the car stereos around me, and craving new stimulation, I have given jamendo a second chance.
